Hypnotherapy
The first ever to have existed psychotherapy, that has undergone a significant revolution over the decades coming from mesmerism up until cognitive and behavioural approaches
Hypnosis is one of the oldest forms of psychotherapy, with its origins tracing back to ancient civilizations.
Originally used in various forms of healing and spiritual practices, it has evolved into a sophisticated and evidence-based therapeutic tool. Today, hypnosis is recognized as a valuable part of modern psychotherapy, focusing on utilizing the power of the mind for healing rather than relying on concepts of sleep or trance as often portrayed in popular media.
Research shows that hypnosis is particularly effective for dealing with issues such as anxiety, pain management, sleep problems, stress-related issues, and breaking habits. In a therapeutic setting, hypnosis involves using your imagination to evoke positive emotions and mentally rehearse new ways of thinking or behaving. It’s akin to becoming engrossed in a film or a book and is generally a very relaxing experience.
By helping you relax, think positively, and visualize your goals, hypnosis can facilitate significant changes in how you think, feel, and behave.
What Evidence is there?
Recent research into imagery and visualization reveals how powerful these techniques can be in helping us achieve our goals and influence the mind-body connection.
For instance, imagine you’re preparing for a big presentation. By using hypnosis to mentally rehearse the situation and envision yourself speaking confidently and successfully, you can create a mental blueprint for success.
This “mental rehearsal” not only prepares your mind but also primes your body to react more positively in the actual situation. It’s similar to how an athlete visualizes a winning performance to improve their physical execution.
Just as a runner who visualizes crossing the finish line can enhance their physical performance, visualizing positive outcomes can impact your real-life experiences and emotional responses.

Am I in Control?
You are always in control during hypnosis—you will remember everything that happens and cannot be made to do anything against your will.
This clinical approach to hypnosis is very different from the comedic portrayals often seen on TV or stage.
Most importantly, hypnosis is a skill you can learn and apply yourself; I will guide you initially and provide you with the tools and techniques to practice at home.
When combined with evidence-based CBT principles, hypnosis can enhance the effectiveness of therapy. Research suggests that this integration can be more effective and quicker than CBT alone for certain conditions (Kirsch et al., 1995). By blending these approaches, we leverage the benefits of both techniques to support your journey towards positive change and greater well-being.
